Pirates garner top basketball honors

Pagosa Springs High School senior Payton Shahan crossed three big goals off her list this season — being part of a state championship basketball team, being named the Colorado 3A girls’ basketball’s Player of the Year, and securing a future playing college basketball.

“All three of her big goals came true for her,” said coach Wes Lewis. “To reach all three really says a lot about her.”

Following the Lady Pirates’ unblemished 26-0 season that culminated in the program’s first state title, 3A coaches dubbed Shahan the Player of the Year.
