A slice of health: A healthier way to make pizza

It might be spring break now and family life is calmer this week, but as the end of the school year draws near, family schedules amp up to high levels. Finding the time to plan and make healthy meals is often a challenge and pizza for dinner is often the default.

But pizza is not such a bad choice when made with healthy ingredients. The following article was taken from the February 2015 Family Matters Newsletter and was written by Sheila Gains, family and consumer science agent with Colorado State University Extension in Arapahoe County.

“Sometimes pizza gets a bad rap for being junk food. When you carefully select the toppings or make it yourself, pizza can be a very healthy option for a snack or a meal. Pizza can contain all of the food groups in a single slice. It can contain whole grains, vegetables, fruit, lean meat and low fat cheese.
