Pirates win one, lose two at Cortez Tournament

The Pagosa Springs High School Pirate baseball team recorded its first win of the season at last weekend’s Cortez Tournament.

Unfortunately, it was accompanied by two losses, giving the Pirates a 1-3 record early in the season.

The first game of the tournament, on March 12, resulted in a 13-0 loss to the Montezuma-Cortez Panthers in which the Pirates were no-hit.

In fact, the team’s only base runner was Caden Henderson, who was hit by a pitch.

The Panthers, meanwhile, recorded 13 runs on eight hits and stole seven bases. Henderson caught one runner.
