Having a compost pile at home allows you to reduce landfill waste and reuse the nutrients in food and yard waste as a soil builder for your outdoor landscape or garden. Compared to adding fertilizer, finished compost allows for long-term nutrient release into soils and helps enhance soil texture. Although commercial compost mixes are available, making your own compost ensures you know what materials are recycled back into your garden or landscape.

Ready to get started? Following a few simple rules, you can begin composting at home here in Pagosa Country and, if you put in a little extra effort, you can even maintain a productive compost pile through the winter.
