The Pagosa Nordic Club (PNC) is hosting a free Learn to Cross-Country Ski Clinic this Saturday, Dec. 13.

Pagosa Nordic volunteer instructors will offer never-ever, beginner and intermediate instruction for classic kick-and-glide cross-country skiing or skate skiing techniques for all ages above 10 years old. The clinic begins at 10 a.m. and will be held at the Alberta Park Nordic Trail at Wolf Creek Ski Area.

Check-in and registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the east end of the upper parking lot. Participants are able to receive discounted rental gear at local ski shops; just mention you are attending the clinic. Please come early enough to gear up and be ready to begin at 10 a.m.

There will be volunteers to help you get geared up if you need assistance.

Please RSVP to PagosaNordic@gmail.com with your name, cell phone number, email, ability level and type of skiing you are interested in. Please note: The recently published Holiday Palooza listed an advanced skate ski clinic this weekend, however, this information has been changed and the advance clinic has been canceled for this weekend. We apologize for any inconvenience.

This Sunday, Dec. 14, PNC will host the Season Opener Nordic BB Gun Biathlon at Alberta Park Nordic Trail at the Wolf Creek Ski Area. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. at the end of the upper parking lot, with the race beginning at 10 a.m. sharp down in the meadow.

Using Red Ryder BB guns, XC skiers will compete in either a 12-km competitive, 6-km citizens or 1-km kids race with three opportunities to shoot at targets in between course laps. The event is a freestyle ski event in which participants can either classic cross-country ski or skate ski with prizes for top finishers as well as participant drawing giveaways. The BB Gun Biathlon has been one of Pagosa Nordic’s most popular race events. Registration fee is $20 for PNC members, $25 for nonmembers and $5 for kids 10-16.

Please arrive early to allow time to park, gear up, register and get down to the event location. RSVP to PagosaNordic@gmail.com with your name, race you are entering, cell phone and email to reserve your spot. Join us on Saturday, Dec. 13, between noon and 2 p.m. in Alberta Park for early registration and learn more about the race, test the course and shoot a few targets. Please note: If fresh snowfall does not occur this weekend, the event may be moved to Fall Creek Nordic trail. Those that have sent an RSVP will be notified of the location.
