United Way of Southwest Colorado is happy to announce that the first local “Day of Caring” has been set for Sept. 11.

United Way anticipates over 50 volunteers from the community will work on approximately 20 service projects, most of which will be completed in a single day. To make this happen, United Way is asking nonprofit agencies in the Colorado counties of Archuleta, La Plata, Montezuma, Dolores and San Juan to submit project proposals that require resources, manpower and/or special skills above and beyond what they can accomplish on their own.

United Way of Southwest Colorado is requesting project proposals that include on-site improvements to enhance agency facilities and make a difference in the community. All projects will be reviewed and attempts will be made to find an adopting company for each proposal. However, there is no guarantee that all projects will be approved and/or adopted. Projects should take between four and eight hours to complete.

In other communities, Day of Caring volunteers have completed tasks such as:

• Landscaping.

• Building raised-bed gardens.

• Painting.

• Building storage shelving.

• Redesigning brochures.

• Moving office furniture or equipment.

• Working on inventory and filing projects.

• Making playgrounds safe and fun.

• Updating website and Facebook pages.

Contact United Way of Southwest Colorado or go to www.unitedway-swco.org to fill out an application. Applications are due no later than June 20. Each applicant must be a registered nonprofit agency in Archuleta, La Plata, Montezuma, Dolores or San Juan counties.

If your business or organization would like to adopt a project or become a corporate sponsor, please contact Peggy Edgerton at 247-9444, ext. 11 or peggye@unitedway-swco.org.
