The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot, if the ballot is to be mailed out, for the Pagosa Area Water and Sanitation District’s regular election is April 29 at 5 p.m.

Absentee ballots for the regular election are available through Renee Lewis, designated election official. Eligible voters must apply for their absentee ballot either in person at 100 Lyn Ave., by mail at P.O. Box 4610, Pagosa Springs, CO 81147, or by email at renee@pawsd.org.

Applications may be obtained in person or downloaded at www.pawsd.org.

Absentee ballots to be delivered in person must be requested by May 2 at 5 p.m. at the latest.

The deadline for submitting absentee ballots is 7 p.m. the day of the election, May 6. Postage stamp of May 6 is not sufficient, as the ballot must be in the possession of Lewis by 7 p.m. the day of the election.

Voters may cast their ballots in person at the PAWSD polling place at 100 Lyn Ave. between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. May 6.

Currently, five candidates are running for positions on the board. They are Jennifer Burck, Paul W. Hansen, Gordon McIver, David West and current board chair Allan Bunch.

Official election results must be held for eight days after the election to accommodate the Uniform and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act. However, preliminary results will be announced as soon as they are available.

If voters are able to sign their own name, they do not need a witness’s signature.
