Special to The SUN
There’s just one week left in the Pagosa Nordic Club’s fall membership drive before the drawing for a free Wolf Creek Ski Area season pass. Join up by 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, to be included in the drawing, which will take place at the Pagosa Brewing Company at 6 p.m. Or show up in person at the brewery at 100 North Pagosa Blvd. by 5:55 p.m. to sign up. If you’ve already bought your season pass, Wolf Creek will reimburse you if you win.
Individual membership is just $25, family memberships are $40, and both can be purchased any time at PagosaNordic.com. Only one entry into the drawing for family memberships.
Proceeds are primarily used to pay for the cost of maintaining groomed trails at Yamaguchi Park, on Reservoir Hill, at the golf course, Fall Creek and along the West Fork Road.
The Nordic Club also conducts public events throughout the season, beginning with a free Learn to Ski XC Clinic on Saturday, Dec. 7.
On Dec. 13-14, the club will host waxing and skate-skiing clinics, offered by masters champion Murray Banks, followed by a season-opener biathlon race that combines skiing and target shooting (BB gun) at Alberta Park on Sunday, Dec. 15.
Later in the season, the club puts on the WinterFest Nordic Weekend Challenge, the Quad Challenge and the Pagosa Paw Dog Sled and Canine Ski Joring races.
Throughout the season, the club hosts free sunset/full-moon ski socials and learn to cross country and skate ski clinics.
With fresh snow in Alberta Park, the club’s hardier members are already out testing their ski legs. Volunteers are busy making sure the other trails are clear and properly marked for when the snow really does fly.
