John Salazar, commissioner of the Colorado Department of Agriculture, has graciously accepted an invitation to serve as keynote speaker at the Future Business Leaders of America chapter installation ceremony to be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30, in the auditorium at Pagosa Springs High School.

The FBLA installation is a formal ceremony to install all FBLA members and the chapter officers for the 2013-2014 year.

The Pagosa Springs High School FBLA would like to invite the Pagosa Springs community to be a part of this year’s installation with our special keynote speaker. As noted on his bio for the Colorado Department of Agriculture, Salazar is the former congressman for Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District, serving from 2005 until 2011. During his time in Congress, he was a member of the House Agricultural Committee, the Veterans Affairs Committee and the Transportation Committee. During his third term, he was a member of the House Appropriations Committee and worked on national energy issues, jobs creation and the economy. Salazar is a member of the Democratic Party and was appointed to his current position in the Department of Agriculture by Gov. John Hickenlooper in 2011.

Salazar was raised on a San Luis Valley farm that his family has farmed and ranched for seven generations, and earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Adams State College.

Current and new chapter members are excited about the opportunity to have such a well-known statesman present the keynote speech.

Members of the Pagosa Springs community are invited and encouraged to attend.
