Special to The SUN
The XTERRA Turkey Track Trail Race will be held Saturday, June 15, on the trails in the Turkey Springs area.
Funds raised at this marathon and half marathon will benefit GECKO (Giving Every Child Knowledge of the Outdoors), a Pagosa based nonprofit whose goal is to award scholarships for Outdoor Leadership Training programs to local students and get them “unplugged, off the couch and outside.”
This race brings serious runners from all across the country to Pagosa, and organizers are expecting well over 200 registrations by Saturday. They bring their families and spend money here on lodging and restaurants.
The race follows trails through the forest and must be clearly marked with flags to guide runners. These marking flags are placed on the trails Friday, June 14, and are removed within 24 hours after the race.
Residents living close by, and locals using the trails, are asked to please not remove any flags prior to the race on Saturday. Organizers would sincerely appreciate your help in making this race a positive experience for these visiting racers.
Let’s show them the best of our Pagosa hospitality.
Thanks for your support.
