Special to The PREVIEW

There are two special Relay for Life dates to remember.

• Saturday June 8.

The Relay for Life Carnival/Triathlon will be hosted 10 a.m.-3 p.m. by Wyndham Warriors, at the Wyndham Resort.

Wyndham Pagosa has teamed up with the Relay For Life campaign to help finish the fight against cancer.  Knowing that every dollar raised brings us one step closer to a world without cancer, the Wyndham Warriors have arranged to host a fun-filled day featuring a carnival theme and a family friendly triathlon (mini golf, horseshoes, basketball throws)  on June 8, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Wyndham property. Mark your calendars for this exciting event and come join us to finish the fight against cancer.

The day of the carnival will feature many fun activities including a bounce house for the kids, glitter tattoos, face painting by Diane Brown, and photo opportunities with Rollergirls In Pagosa.  Sidewalk space and chalk are even available for a sidewalk art contest!  In addition to multiple activities, carnival-like interactive games will highlight the event and you will be able to enjoy everything from cotton candy to snow cones and popcorn!

Two separate triathlons will be held, the first from 11 a.m.–12:30 p.m. and the second from 1–2:30 p.m.  Teams will consist of up to four people competing for the best combined score in mini-golf, horseshoes and basketball throws. Teams are welcome to compete in one or both competitions. The cost to compete is three tickets per person.  Winners will receive a prize and a day they will not soon forget.

Contests are open to kids of all ages.

All activities and games will require tickets to participate.  Participants can purchase game tickets on the day of the carnival.  All proceeds from the carnival are a donation and 100 percent goes to the American Cancer Society.

Refreshments will be available that day thanks to contributions from Wyndham, Plaza Grill, The View and Sweets and Such.  Other vendors in Pagosa are more than welcome to participate, with a portion of your proceeds donated to Relay for Life.

• Friday June 21, 6 p.m.-Saturday June 22.

The Relay for Life event at Pagosa Springs High School.

The Wyndham Carnival is an extension of Relay For Life and is one small part of the 100 year celebration of the American Cancer Society.

Relay For Life is an overnight community gathering that gives everyone an opportunity to fight cancer and help save lives.  It is a time to remember those who have faced cancer, those we have lost, those still fighting, and those who have fought cancer and have been victorious.

This year, the Relay For Life will be held at the Pagosa Springs High School track June 21-22 with opening ceremonies starting at 6 p.m.  A silent auction begins at 3 p.m. on June 21 and ends at 9.  The survivor dinner will begin at 5 p.m. on June 21. There will be multiple items to bid on, donated by all team participants.  At 9:30 p.m. there will be a Luminaria Ceremony, which is a time of silent remembrance dedicated to those who have faced cancer.  You can register or donate to a team at ArchuletaRelay.org.

Join us to celebrate the 100th birthday of the American Cancer Society and its achievements, including groundbreaking research, treatments, support and saved lives.  June 8 and June 21 are two dates to remember in this yearlong birthday party.  Every dollar we raise brings the American Cancer Society one step closer to creating a world with less cancer and more birthdays.  Every member of our community can make a difference.
