Rollergirls In Pagosa — Pagosa Springs’ women’s flat-track roller derby team — will take on M’Atom Bombs of Los Alamos, N.M., in their first home bout of the 2013 roller derby season.
The bout takes place Saturday, June 15, at 7 p.m. in the gymnasium at Pagosa Springs High School.
The roller derby team has trained hard for this season, with two to three practices each week and training year-round. All the efforts paid off in their first bout of the season in April. They beat down Moab Roller Derby, 226-105, in the “Small Town Beat Down” in Moab, Utah.
Rollergirls In Pagosa will be fielding a limited roster in June, with skaters out on injury and maternity leave, and two skaters from Durango Roller Girls completing the team of 10 women. Spectators will have the opportunity to watch Trixie Trouble, Stashe, Whiplash, Rave N Fury, GiGi Hurtz, Rockin’ Da Floss, Pop N Rockett, Super Looper, Kim Jen Illin’ and Eicherumba tear up the flat track.
Says Coach Chupa, “RIP is going to put its reputation as one of the best new leagues in the Four Corners area on the line. We have played Los Alamos before, and it was a competitive game. Now, we will see who has better conditioning, better strategy and a better team from top to bottom. My money is on RIP.”
On Sept. 7, Rollergirls In Pagosa will skate against South Side Derby Dames in their second home bout of the season. They also have an away bout against Boulder County Bombers in October.
Tickets for the upcoming home bout are $10 in advance and $12 at the door and can be purchased at Pagosa Brewing Company, La Bella Boutique, Higher Grounds and San Juan Dental Hygiene. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the action begins at 7. There will be halftime entertainment and an after-party at Pagosa Brewing Company. Don’t miss this opportunity to watch the hard-hitting action and cheer on your home team.
