A portion of U.S. 160 west of Pagosa Springs is currently closed following the rollover of a fuel tanker, and the highway is expected to be closed for several more hours.
According to Archuleta County Sheriff’s Office Department of Emergency Management’s Christina Marquart, a full-size tanker carrying 9,500 gallons of diesel and gasoline rolled this morning on U.S. 160, at approximately mile marker 126, between CO 151 and the Piedra River.
Fuel began leaking from the truck about 8 a.m., Marquart said, and the remaining gasoline and diesel is currently being offloaded to another tanker.
Several agencies have responded to the scene, including a Hazmat crew and an environmental cleanup crew, Marquart said.
Colorado State Patrol has not yet conducted an investigation into the cause of the accident because of the cleanup operations, Marquart said.
A passenger riding in the tanker received minor injuries, and no other injuries were reported.
Vehicles are able to detour around the closure via CO 151.
