Pagosa Youth Wrestling Program will begin its intramural wrestling practices for grades K-six beginning Monday, April 15.
The program will run for four weeks.
Boys in grades four to six will practice in the junior high wrestling room from 4-5 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. Fourth-graders can ride the bus from the elementary school to the junior high after school. Fifth- and sixth-graders can report directly to the wrestling room after school.
First- through third-graders will practice from 5:15 to 6 p.m. in the junior high wrestling room on the same days.
The emphasis in the Pagosa Youth wrestling practices is on exercise, combative games and learning basic collegiate wrestling skills. The purpose is to develop physical fitness, all-purpose athletic skills, and to lay the groundwork for competitive wrestling in the later grades. The intramural program is skill based. While there are competitive games and drills in every practice, it does not include competition with other clubs.
