The Board of Directors for United Way of Southwest Colorado announces that Lynn Urban has been selected as the new president and CEO for the organization.

After an extensive search that resulted in more than 65 applications received, the board agreed that Urban was the right candidate for the job. She replaces Tim Walsworth, who resigned in December to become the executive director for the Durango Business Improvement District (BID).

Urban has a Ph.D. in psychology, has worked in higher education for more than a decade, and also operates a small business in partnership with her husband, Jeff. Most recently, she served as dean for the Durango campus of Pueblo Community College. Under her leadership, the campus successfully merged with San Juan Basin Technical College, enrollment grew 76 percent, and educational offerings were expanded to other locations in the region.

“Lynn brings a wealth of positive community relationships with her to United Way,” says Joe Kusar, senior vice president for commercial lending at Bank of Colorado and United Way board president. “Her business management experience and enthusiasm for the United Way mission were also important factors in our decision.”

United Way of Southwest Colorado serves communities in the five counties of Archuleta, Dolores, La Plata, Montezuma and San Juan by providing leadership and fund-raising for partner agencies in the areas of education, healthcare and self-reliance.
