Seeds of Learning is having a birthday, and we are turning 15.

In 1996, a survey conducted by Operation Healthy Communities identified the number one need in Archuleta County as early care and education. There was a lack of early care and education for parents needing to work, for teen mothers wanting to continue their education, as well as a lack of educational and recreational activities for families with young children.

In February 1998, Seeds of Learning opened at the Community United Methodist Church caring for eight infants. The following year, the Town of Pagosa Springs offered the center the use of a vacated medical clinic building. This larger facility allowed Seeds to expand care to toddlers in January of 1999 and additionally to preschoolers in September.

Today, the center serves 48 toddlers and preschoolers daily in a 5,000 square-foot facility located at 575 South 7th Street.

Seeds has been providing stable and secure relationships, good nutrition, educational and health services to the youngest citizens of our community for 15 years. Thank you, Pagosa Springs, for supporting us while we kept growing our Seeds.

As one very wise man said, “Seeds of Learning is building better adults!”

We will be celebrating with a big birthday bash on Thursday, Feb. 21, from 4-5:30 p.m. at Seeds of Learning. There will be lots of fun, and birthday cake will be served.
