By popular demand, The Zikr Dance Ensemble will return to the Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts for one performance only — Saturday, Feb. 2, at 7 p.m.

The regionally- and nationally-acclaimed Zikr Dance Ensemble’s singular artistic focus makes it totally unique among professional dance companies in the United States.
The Zikr Dance Ensemble repertoire was developed through Artistic Director David Taylor’s lifelong fascination with and study of ancient cultures and dance as both powerful ritual and as a transcendent experience. His new company presents a variety of works from around the world that focuses on the spiritual aspect of dance. The program includes dances based on the cultural and spiritual heritage of Tibet, Bali, the Mideast, central Asia, the American Southwest and the tropical rainforests of Brazil.
The Zikr Dance Ensemble offers a spectrum of works that include transcendent dance rituals from many different ancient world cultures throughout history along with original and contemporary dance/theatre realizations. The company’s purpose is to offer performance experiences of spiritual atonement for both participants and audiences alike, which are both theatrically engaging and educational and that also connect to numerous organizations dedicated to both promoting spiritual tolerance and multi-cultural understanding for the entire community.
The dances in performance are supplemented by stunning slide projections, completing a multi-media experience that audiences and presenters alike have found to be both visually and artistically stimulating as well as intellectually captivating.
The Zikr Dance Ensemble’s outstanding company members are some of the finest ballet-trained professionals in the state and the company includes dancers from numerous professional companies from along the Front Range. The company has received overwhelming critical acclaim over the past three years through performances in Denver, Boulder, Fort Collins, Parker, Carbondale, Grand Junction, and Crested Butte as well as in St. Paul, Minn., and Los Angeles, Calif.
