A Pagosa Springs man has been arrested on a charge relating to the sexual exploitation of a child — the possession of child pornography.

John Daniel Vick, 48, was arrested Monday, “for possession of sexually exploitative material,” according to Det. Scott Maxwell with the Pagosa Springs Police Department.

Maxwell confirmed the arrest was for possession of material that dealt with minors.

Maxwell declined to comment further, citing an ongoing investigation into the matter.

The Affidavit for Arrest Warrant in the case notes that Vick previously served as the fatherhood advocate for the Archuleta County Department of Human Services and was fired in April 2011 for violating department policy due to pornography found on his work computer.

According to the affidavit, further investigation revealed pornographic websites in the history of Vick’s work computer, as well as photos reportedly containing child pornography.

County Attorney Todd Starr declined to comment on the matter, saying only that the county was cooperating with law enforcement.

Vick most recently served as co-director of The Nurturing Center, a family resource center, according to the affidavit.

Vick is being held in the Archuleta County Detention Center on $250,000 bond and is scheduled for an advisement hearing at 8:30 a.m. today.
