Entries being accepted for Durango photo show

    The Open Shutter Gallery in Durango is hosting its annual juried photographic competition and is currently accepting entries.

    The competition is open to all domestic and international, professional and amateur photographers, working with digital or traditional photography or a combination of both.

    The images to be exhibited in the show will be selected by the Open Shutter Gallery, and the winners of the categories will be chosen by guest juror and professional photographer Craig Semetko.

    Entries are to be submitted as digital files on CD or DVD. The exhibit dates are Nov. 9-Dec. 6.

    The categories are: Best of Show, Best of B & W, Best of Color and seven excellence awards.

    All awards come with cash prizes and a certificate.

    The juror, Craig Semetko, is a graduate of Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., and a current masters candidate in consciousness studies of philosophical research in Los Angeles. After college, Semetko became a comedy writer and performer and discovered photography as another means of storytelling. Elliott Erwitt wrote the forward to Semetko’s most recent book, “Unposed,” published by teNeues. Semetko’s photographs have appeared in numerous publications worldwide and can be found in private collections throughout Europe and the United States.

    Postmarked entries are due Oct. 3, 2012, and the entry fee for each photograph is $25.
