The Weminuche Audubon Society monthly meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, in the Senior Dining Room at the Ross Aragon Community Cente.
The meeting will feature J.R. Ford: “On the Road to a Healthy Forest.”
Since 1983, Ford has been involved with the Pagosa Springs community as a building contractor, real estate broker, ranch manager and volunteer. He enjoys all that Pagosa Springs and the region has to offer finding it an especially great place to raise a family.
From his experiences managing local ranches, the concept to create a company that efficiently thinned the overgrown forests became clear to Ford. He has taken that forest management idea and secured a 10-year stewardship contract and is now in the process of building a five-megawatt biomass gasification power plant as well as other startup companies, including a product removal service and a sawmill.
Though sometimes the road we head down looks to be straightforward, life experiences tell us that the road is most likely curvy, with bumps. The ability to handle those bumps and curves produces new innovative ideas and an attitude that has helped Ford persevere and get to where he is today. Attend the meeting and learn about the utilization of the products provided by the contract.
