On Saturday, Oct. 28, the TARA Community Center in Arboles sponsored a chili cook-off with a silent auction.
There were 12 entries for green chili and 11 entries for red chili. The winners were judged by a panel of tasters. The People’s Choice was selected by the people.
The following are the winners.
Green chili
First place: Kymberley Pierce.
Second place: Carol Lorac.
Third place: Melissa Gills.
Red chili
First place: Mike McDowell.
Second place: Cassandra Shacklett.
Third place: Charmaine Curtis.
The People’s Choice winner was Lorie Davis.
We would like to thank all of the volunteers who made it all happen and those who contributed. It was a fun community event that was well attended.
TARA community Thanksgiving dinner
On Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23, at noon, the TARA Community Center will sponsor a free Thanksgiving dinner.
We realized that there are many in our community who spend the holidays alone. We wanted to change this for people who would like to share a delicious Thanksgiving meal together.
The TARA Food Pantry will provide turkey and ham and there is a sign-up sheet for those who can bring a dish.

This is the first year that TARA has offered a community Thanksgiving dinner. We hope that it will become an annual tradition.
Christmas in Arboles
The TARA Community Center is holding its Annual Christmas in Arboles event on Dec. 3 from noon to 4 p.m.
A holiday cookie contest will be held with prizes for the winners. There will also be local vendors, and cookie plates will be sold after the contest.
We ask for vendors to please not sell cookies at the tables, as this is a fundraiser for the TARA Community Center. Table choices for vendors are 5-foot round tables for $15 or a 6-foot-by-2.5-foot rectangular table for $20. Please email or call Susan Halkin to reserve a table.
