“Sounds of the Season” is the Pagosa Springs Community Choir’s theme this year, and beautiful choral sounds you will indeed soon hear.
The Community Choir’s annual Christmas concerts will be presented on Friday, Dec. 8, and Saturday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 10, at 4 p.m. in the Pagosa Springs High School auditorium.
You will hear familiar sounds of the season such as “Here We Come A-Caroling” and “Come All Ye Faithful,” and some not-so-familiar sounds such as our theme for the year, “Sounds of the Season,” in which the choir’s voices mimic bell tones. The song sparkles with energy and joy in celebration of Christmas.
Dan Burch has been the music director of the Pagosa Springs Community Choir for many years now, and one of his special signatures is coaching the choir to sing a capella in the round. A capella singing is when a group sings with no instrumental accompaniment and is quite challenging.
During this part of the program, the choir comes out into the auditorium and surrounds the audience with their voices, bringing folks in the audience a unique listening experience and choral sound. It is magical and lovely to hear all the voices of the choir surrounding you with these unaccompanied pieces and a rare treat that you do not want to miss.
Imagine listening to the beauty of “Silent Night” in live surround sound — you will be filled with the joy of the Christmas season.
The Pagosa Springs Community Choir is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that offers these annual Christmas concerts free of charge. We do, though, graciously accept your donations. The donations we receive fund the choir’s operating expenses, purchase of music and, most importantly, our student scholarships that we award annually to local voice students and that pay for private voice lessons.
