Herb Stipe, 77, of Pagosa Springs, Colo., passed away peacefully on Jan. 15, 2024, surrounded by family.
He was born in Cheyenne, Wyo., and grew up loving the outdoors, learning to hunt and fish in the Snowy Range.
He met his wife, Charleen, at the University of Wyoming and taught high school English in Wyoming and Arizona.
He was also a revered wrestling and football coach. When he and Charleen retired from teaching, they moved to Pagosa Springs, where Herb’s sense of humor and friendly, generous and kind spirit made many friends. He was father to three children, Jim, Kristen and Kara, and grandfather to five grandchildren, all of whom he loved and adored. A celebration of life is planned for June. Donations may be made in his name to the Thingamajig Theater Company or to Rocky Mountain Wild.
