Orchid care and maintenance. At the Sisson Library, 5:30-7 p.m. This class will focus on the basics of orchid botany, as it relates to how these unique plants grow and protect themselves from disease. Participants can also bring in their own orchids for specific care suggestions. The class will be presented by Lake McCullough, local orchid grower and owner of Earthsense Herbals and Gift Gallery. This event is free and open to the public. No materials or registration is required.

Sprouts! Storytime for our littlest patrons, babies 6 months-2 years. 10-10:30 a.m. at Ruby Sisson Library. A half hour of stories, songs and fingerplays for your little one. Learn easy tips on how to include literacy skills into everyday family life. This is a lap sit program so there must be one adult present for each child attending. Auction for the Animals. The auction will be held at the Ross Aragon Community Center beginning at 6 p.m. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 the day of the auction. 2010 School of Christian Mission. The Community United Methodist Church, 434 Lewis Street, Pagosa Springs, will offer three mission studies as part of 2010 School of Christian Mission. Faith - Hope - Love in Action. Attendees will be able to choose one of the three being offered. These include The Beauty and Courage of Sudan: Why a Dream of Peace is Possible, For the Love of God: John’s Letters, and Joy to the World: Mission in the Age of Global Christianity. Cracks in the Earth. A Geology Tour of Ice Cave Ridge with Glenn Raby, 10 a.m. Take a moderate walk of about 2 miles round trip through an interesting bit of forest. Meet at the Piedra River Trailhead northwest of Pagosa Springs. From U.S. 160, go north on Piedra Road for about 14 miles. The trailhead is on the left a few hundred yards beyond the crossing of the Piedra River. This free event is sponsored by Pagosa Ranger District of the San Juan Public Lands, 264-2268.

| SOS fund-raiser. Southwest Organization for Sustainability (SOS) will hold its annual fund-raiser 3-6 p.m. at DJ’s Ice Cream Parlor and Italian Grill, corner of Village and Talisman. Silent auction, Brown Bag Raffle, music, ice cream and prizes for kids. SOS sponsors the Farmers Market, Earth Day workshops, films and speakers. |
Wolf Educational Program. Paula Watson from the Wolfwood Refuge & Adoption Center near Ignacio will bring several of the wolf/dog residents and give an educational program about their behavior and issues surrounding these special animals. Program will begin at 7 p.m. at Navajo State Park amphitheater or 7 p.m. at the visitor center in case of rainy weather. Colorado State Parks pass is required on all vehicles. Terrific Tuesdays! 7 to 9 p.m. Dance on the best dance floor in southwest Colorado. DAR. The Sarah Platt Decker Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution will hold its monthly meeting at the La Plata County Senior Center, 2424 Main Ave., at 10 a.m. The program will be “There’s a Witch in my Broom Closet” presented by chapter member June Hahl. Orchid Planting Workshop. In this hands-on workshop at Earthsense Herbals and Gift Gallery, participants will plant their own seedling orchid! We will address the pros and cons of different potting mediums, as well as correct watering procedures and disease prevention for each orchid species. Please be prepared to get your hands dirty!
