Relay for Life
SUN photos/Terri House
Relay for Life is a chance for the community to come together each year with a common cause: the fight against cancer.
Local individuals and teams gathered at Golden Peaks Stadium at the high school last week, beginning their fund-raising, and hope-raising activities Friday afternoon. The traditional Survivors’ Lap took place Friday evening. Music, dance and aerobics, games and food highlighted the event, and a Fight Back Ceremony was held Saturday morning. Awards and the closing ceremony concluded the activities shortly before noon.

Lauren White Golf Tournament

A host of local golfers took part in the annual tournament June 7 at the Pagosa Springs Golf Club. Former Pagosa Springs residents Cindy, Burly and Chris White wanted to find a way to pay special tribute to their daughter and sister, Lauren, following her tragic death in a 2002 automobile accident and established the Lauren White Memorial Scholarship — a scholarship now administered with the help of staff at Pagosa Springs High School. A golf tournament was created to raise funds for the scholarship.
This year, the fund gave out three $1,000 and four $500 awards.
