La Plata Electric Round Up Foundation shares in the excitement of Loaves and Fishes volunteers as all those dirty dishes are loaded in the new dishwasher that Round Up helped them acquire. What joy a dishwasher can bring.
Thank you to all the volunteers at Loaves and Fishes. You do a great job. We’re glad Round Up can help.
Loaves and Fishes is one of the many charitable organizations in Pagosa Springs that have received financial support from Round Up. This year alone, Round Up funds have helped our community center acquire much-needed computers, and the Lutheran School provide nutritious hot lunches to students. Funds have gone to the Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts, Seeds of Learning, the Foundation for Archuleta County Education, Habitat for Humanity, the After Prom Party Committee, the Silver Foxes and our senior center. The list of organizations benefited by Round Up funds in Pagosa Springs, and in all communities served by La Plata Electric Association, is long and varied.
The LPEA Round Up Foundation, formed in 1996, is the non-profit arm of our electric company, overseen by a volunteer board with community representatives from all LPEA districts. The mission of Round Up is to advance and support causes within the service territory of La Plata Electric Association, to improve the quality of life in our community.
Round Up is funded when members opt to “round-up” their electric bills to the next higher dollar amount (an average of 50 cents per month). It may not seem like a lot, but collectively, all those pennies add up. Members can “round-up” dollars, too. An electric bill rounded up from $86 to $90 adds even more to the funds available for our communities.
Since it was organized in 1996 by LPEA, Round Up has offered grants totaling almost a million dollars to community agencies, supporting seniors, children, the homeless and the hungry. Residents of Pagosa Springs, Ignacio, Bayfield and Durango can see those pennies and dollars supporting good causes at home.
It takes only a few minutes to sign up and contribute to Round Up, as together we make our communities stronger. Call LPEA, 247-5786, or visit www.lpea.coop, to add a few cents each month, and help Round Up fund the organizations that do so much in our town. A little bit helps a lot.
