Throughout each year, people everywhere purchase cards and gifts for friends, family members, business associates, service people, teachers and others.
Many times it is hard to select just the right greeting at the card counter, or to select a meaningful, yet reasonably-priced gift.
For the past several years, Community United Methodist Church has offered a heartwarming solution to card and gift giving. This program is called “Gifts of the Heart.”
This is a a win-win opportunity for everyone.
For a minimum donation of $5, you can purchase one of a variety of greeting cards. Inside each card is a message stating that a donation has been made to one of three local non-profit organizations in honor (or in memory) of the recipient.
You can choose from Christmas, birthday, memorial or Valentine’s Day cards, or a variety of general gift cards.
The groups that receive support from the sale of these locally designed cards are The Community Assistance Fund and Food Pantry sponsored by the Methodist Church; the Pagosa Springs Youth Center; and the After School Tutoring Program at the Archuleta County Education Center.
Just think of all the people you know who would love to receive such a “Gift of the Heart.” These cards make wonderful hostess gifts, thank you notes, memorial remembrances (rather than or in conjunction with flowers), Christmas or Hanukkah gifts, birthday presents, etc.
Each of these handmade cards can be yours for a minimum donation of $5. They can be purchased Monday through Thursday from Cory at the Community United Methodist Church office on Lewis Street.
Additionally, for your shopping convenience, the cards will be offered at the 38th annual Holiday Bazaar this Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Ross Aragon Community Center. Look for the Gifts of the Heart booth along the front row of booths in the main gym. Bazaar hours are 9 a.m.–3 p.m. Checks and cash will be accepted.
Every cent raised from the sale of these cards goes directly to the group that you select. Your choice of a “Gift of the Heart” is far-reaching: You make the person you send the card to very happy, you get a feeling of satisfaction for reaching out to others, and the people who participate in the above-mentioned programs will reap the rewards of your generosity.
