The program for the Oct. 11 meeting of Mountain View Homemakers Club will include handing out 10 checks ranging up to $500 to non-profit organizations from our area.
Following that will be further discussion about the responsibility the club has assumed for the annual Holiday Bazaar at the Ross Aragon Community Center on Nov. 3.
Members and guests will gather at 11:30 a.m. to visit and set up the table with a wide variety of covered dishes. Lunch will begin promptly at noon.
Beginning at 12:30 p.m., checks will be given to representatives of each of the eight organizations voted by members to receive an equal portion from the club’s fund-raising auction in July. Smaller checks will be given to Archuleta County Education Center to support the baby sitter classes — a longstanding club obligation — and to the Ruby Sisson Memorial Library as thanks for storing the club’s scrapbooks.
Those organizations receiving $500 checks are: Archuleta County Victim Assistance Program, the Dr. Mary Fisher Medical Foundation, Hospice/Mercy Health Foundation, Humane Society of Pagosa Springs, Pagosa Outreach Connection, Pagosa Pregnancy Support Center, Pagosa Springs Youth Center and Senior Services Home Delivered Meals.
Mountain View Homemakers is a club dedicated to making our homes and our community better places. At most meetings, there is an enlightening program. Once or twice a year we have a work day to make items for babies, children and those in a nursing home or hospice. During the year our members volunteer as needed. We’ve worked at Loaves and Fishes and have taken food to those working on Habitat homes.
The club raises money at one big auction in July and this year, at the request of the Civic Club, has taken on the production of the annual Holiday Bazaar. We host a Christmas party and hear the high school choir sing carols, then feed the carolers and visit with them.
All area women are urged to come and join us. Visitors are not expected to bring a covered dish. There are no requirements or dues. When you come for the second time, you can bring a dish because, then, you’re a member.
