Senior Pirate golfer Reyes McInnis will represent Pagosa Springs High School at the 3A state tournament in early October.
McInnis, along with three other Pirates, took to the links at Hollydot in Colorado City Monday and Tuesday for regional action, with McInnis finishing in the top 15 on the day.
“Reyes qualified, did a great job,” Coach Mark Faber said, adding that McInnis finished somewhere in the top 15 at the tournament in which roughly 90 athletes participated.
McInnis shot an 86 at the tournament to earn his way to state at Pinehurst Golf Club in Denver on Oct. 1 and 2.
Fellow Pirates Jaylen Ochoa, Jake Keuning and Tyler Manzanares also took part in the tournament and, while Faber was unable to provide their scores and standings, said, “The other kids fought really, really hard,” and came close to qualifying.
“They all played pretty well,” Faber said, highlighting the team’s attitude and fight at the tournament. “I’m real proud of how they finished up.”
Faber said he hopes to give McInnis a look at the Pinehurst course prior to October’s state tournament.
