Girl Scouts to begin food drive

Girl Scout Troop 3459 will be working toward earning the Bronze Award in 2012.

This award requires development of leadership skills combined with community service and is the highest honor a Girl Scout Junior (fourth and fifth graders) can achieve.

To earn the Bronze Award, the Troop has decided to conduct a community food drive, where all food collected goes to the people of Archuleta County.

The first major event for this effort will be Friday, Sept. 21, at the Homecoming football game at the high school. Those attending the game are asked to bring two non-perishable food items to the Girl Scouts’ table at the game. The Troop will collect food donations at home football games.

During the month of October, there will be drop boxes for food donations at several locations around town — locations to be announced in October. The Girl Scouts of Troop 3459 thank the community for helping us achieve the Bronze Award with this community awareness and involvement effort.
