The Pagosa Springs High School golf team placed second in league action last Friday in South Fork.
The team played in the first-ever conference tournament against Alamosa and Monte Vista at the Rio Grande Club in South Fork.
Four Pirate golfers took part in the tournament on the par-72 course, finished behind Alamosa and ahead of Monte Vista in the standings.
Reyes McInnis led the team with a 102, Casey Mudroch followed closely behind with a 103, Jaylon Ochoa notched a 106 and Jake Keuning tallied a 108.
“Without a doubt, it’s the toughest course they’ll play all year,” said Coach Mark Faber.
Fresh off the second-place finish and with what Faber said is an improving team, the squad will be busy over the next week, taking on four tournaments.
Today, Thursday, the team heads to La Veta, followed by play in Monte Vista on Friday.
Monday, the team will head to Durango and Hillcrest Golf Club, followed by a quick turnaround Tuesday to Colorado City and the Rye tournament.
The Rye tournament will close out the team’s regular season, and will give the squad a practice round on the course that they will return to the following week for regional action.
“We’re getting there,” Faber said. “It’s taking some time.”
