Pagosa Pregnancy Center welcomes new executive director

The Pagosa Pregnancy Center Board of Directors is pleased to announce the hiring of a new executive director, Janeah Weaver.

Weaver comes on board at a crucial time in the Pregnancy Center’s history, as more and more young women and men come through the doors for counseling, education and supplies in support of parenthood.

We have always had a part-time executive director. The ministry has grown so much that it is imperative to bring on a full-time executive director. Janeah offers unique talents and gifts to the ministry that are so needed at this particular point in our history.

Weaver brings a key combination of educational and work experience to the position. She holds a bachelor’s degree in social work with a minor in sociology from Colorado State University, and a master’s in social work from the University of Denver, with a track in leadership for community and organizational practice. As a social worker, Weaver has had extensive therapeutic experience with at-risk youth and has provided crisis intervention services, including mediation services, to families in need. In addition, she has had success in fund-raising, grant writing and event planning in her role as assistant director with a nonprofit organization in Loveland, Colo.

Weaver’s family moved to Pagosa Springs in May of 2011 when her husband, Dustin, joined the staff of San Juan Veterinary Hospital. They have two children, are active at Grace Church and enjoy hiking in our beautiful area. Weaver also enjoys beading, crafting, “and a chocolate eclair now and then!”

We are excited to have her as part of the team. At the same time, we will miss the presence of outgoing executive director, Janet Maley, who was willing to fill the position when Lisa Locke had to step down due to family health issues. We are very grateful for her service as a volunteer, client services director and, finally, executive director. Maley is retiring in October. Weaver will assume the executive director’s role on Oct. 15.

Expressing her feelings regarding the position, Weaver says, “What a joy it is to become a part of a wonderful organization that supports and empowers pregnant women and families in Pagosa Springs.”
