Tomorrow is the deadline to register for this year’s “Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs” program, which is tentatively scheduled for the month of August at Lake Forest.
With the assistance of the Promoting Prevention Coalition, Pagosa Springs Parks and Recreation Departments and Pagosa Lakes Property Owners Association, up to 25 children ages 8-13 can participate in this educational outdoor experience. A minimum of 10 participants will be required to conduct the program.
Registration cost is $25 and includes usage of fishing poles, bait and flies for those in need, plus drinks and snacks. Participants are welcome to bring their own fishing gear, as well. Insect repellent and sunscreen will also be made available.
Registrations are available at the recreation office in Town Hall, and can also be downloaded through the recreation department link at www.townofpagosasprings.com. Registrations should be submitted to the recreation office; checks and money orders should be made payable to the Town of Pagosa Springs.
For more information, call the recreation office at 264-4151, Ext. 232.

The annual Softball Blowout, which is in its twenty-ninth year and typically features double-elimination brackets for men’s and women’s teams, will be held at the high school sports complex Aug. 4 and 5. This year’s format is “hit your own,” and the registration deadline is Aug. 1.
Registration fees for both divisions (men’s and women’s) are $275; a $150 deposit will guarantee placement in a bracket prior to the start of the tournament. Registration fees can be paid by cashier’s check or money order, but no personal checks will be accepted.
Team managers interested in submitting rosters for this year’s tournament can contact Sue Jones, tournament sponsor, at 264-2642 for more details.

Cost to participate is $30. Participants must have nonmarking-soled athletic or tennis shoes. The recreation department may have some racquets available, but participants are encouraged to purchase and use their own equipment.
