Get ready to get out your tie dye T-shirts, flipflops and festival chairs this Saturday and Sunday, July 14 and 15, as San Juan River Music presents the second annual San Juan River Music Festival at Town Park, featuring the legendary New Riders of the Purple Sage.
Titans of the Bay Area psychedelic rock scene (the original lineup included Jerry Garcia, Phil Lesh and Mickey Hart from the Grateful Dead as well as Spencer Dryden of the Jefferson Airplane), the New Riders have spent nearly a half century performing their signature brand of rock, folk, country and bluegrass for fans worldwide.
Hot on the heels of their new “17 Pine Avenue” release (12 new songs, seven of which were written by original guitarist and vocalist David Nelson and Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter), the New Riders have managed to prove they continue to make music that is as timeless as it is fresh, new and exciting.
Get a peek at the new New Riders at www.nrpsmusic.com/ or visit Amazon.com to hear what the band is offering up on “17 Pine Avenue.”
In addition to those legendary psychedelic rangers, this year’s SJRM festival will featur other special guest artists such as The Porter Draw, Lost Lingo, Lige Williamson, Tom Irwin and his band, The Shane Lane band, Jason Eklund, David Lindsey, Boris and The Salt Licks, The Lindells, Faculty X, and Elder Grown.
While great music, good times and an appreciation for the San Juan River is primary, this year the SJRM festival also hopes to raise some money for the Veterans for Veterans of Archuleta County and the Pagosa Springs Rotary Club — two great organizations helping our community — by selling pre-sale tickets.
If you are interested in helping these nonprofit organizations, show your support by purchasing pre-sale, two-day passes. All you have to do is buy a ticket from either organization directly. When you do, $20 of every $40 ticket will go directly to that organization.
You can learn more about Vets4Vets by going the website, vets4vetspsco.org.Tthe pre-sale offer will end tomorrow, July 13, so get your tickets now.
You can also show your support by purchasing T-shirts from Vets4Vets at the show or buy a beer and a burger from the Rotary Club.
Rotary will be serving cold beer selections from the award winning Pagosa Brewing Company. To get an idea of what the Rotary does for this community, go to noon.pagosarotary.org/ to see the various programs they sponsor that benefit the area.
All proceeds from the T-shirts and beer sales will go directly to these worthy groups.
At the festiva, you can also chow down on some barbecue from The Buck Stops Here, sip fresh lemonade from Fruits Fresh Squeezed, enjoy vegetarian items and pastries from Boulder Coffee Cafe, and pick up some really cool items from other vendors at the event.
While time is short, if you are interested in vending at the show or volunteering go to SJRMTeam@GMail.com or call 264-7707.
