Making pottery like the Ancient Ones

Can you dig it? — a pottery class for kids only, will be offered at Chimney Rock Archaeological Area Wednesday, Aug. 1, and Thursday, Aug. 2, 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. each day.

The Mesa Verde Bowl Making Program for Kids is open to participants entering fourth to seventh grade next school year.

The program is hosted by Chimney Rock Archeological Area, Ancient Arts and Hands-On Arts Camp.

Tuition is $70 for the two-day event.

Class limit is 20 students and transportation will be provided.

Discover the past of the Ancient Ones at Chimney Rock. Instructor Gregory Wood, B.F.A. ceramics, archaeo ceramist, and art educator specializing in the history and methods of Ancestral Puebloan pottery, has been invited to teach this exclusive class. His website is

Hands-On Arts Camp teachers Lisa Brown and Tessie Garcia will assist Wood teaching students how to make an Ancestral Puebloan bowl using the same techniques and materials as the Ancient Ones.
