After months of planning and preparation, the Fifth Annual Pagosa Folk ‘N Bluegrass music festival is finally here! The long-awaited music festival will take place June 8-10, on Reservoir Hill in Pagosa Springs. This year’s phenomenal lineup of performers features 14 bands playing a wide variety of Americana music: Mountain Heart, David Wilcox, Jimmy LaFave, Sierra Hull and Highway 111, Bearfoot, SHEL, Larkin Poe, Elephant Revival, The Deadly Gentlemen, Lake Street Dive, Phoebe Hunt Project, Cahalen Morrison & Eli West, Finnders & Youngberg, and Jayme Stone’s Room of Wonders. Links to their websites and music can be found at the festival website: www.folkwest.com.
The festival campground will open Friday, June 8, at 11 a.m. and the first of the weekend’s dozen or so music workshops gets underway at noon that day. Workshops are offered on all three days of the festival, giving aspiring players the chance to learn some tricks of the trade on their specific instrument or enjoy an intimate front-row seat performance of an unplugged band performance.
The festival’s Main Stage sets kick off at 5 p.m. on Friday, ending around 10 p.m., at which time the spotlight shifts over to the Late Night Stage for a rousing, unplugged jam hosted by Finnders & Youngberg. Festivities are expected to continue for some time that night.
On Saturday, the Main Stage goes live again with music from noon until 8:30 p.m., followed by more Late Night Stage offerings from Cahalen Morrison & Eli West at 9 p.m. and Phoebe Hunt at 10 p.m. Workshops are scheduled throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday.
Sunday’s Main Stage music starts at 11 a.m. and ends at 7:30 p.m., giving festival-goers time to head home for some much-needed shuteye (in case the magical festival memories aren’t quite enough to sustain you) before returning to the work-a-day world on Monday.
The family-friendly Pagosa Folk ‘N Bluegrass festival offers free admission for children 12 and under when accompanied by an adult. The festival Kid’s Tent is home to magic, music and juggling shows, plus arts and crafts activities on Saturday and Sunday.
