High school, junior high rodeo action in Pagosa this weekend

Don’t miss your chance to support local High School Rodeo Association members on Saturday, May 12, and Sunday, May 13, at the Colorado State High School and Junior High Rodeo.

There is no gate charge to watch this event, which will take place at the Western Heritage Event Center Arena (U.S. 84 and Mill Creek Road) — Red Ryder Rodeo Arena.

The Basin High School Rodeo Club, which includes members from Pagosa Springs, Durango, Bayfield and Ignacio, will host the two-day event for students from across the state.

Saturday will begin with junior high rodeo at 9 a.m.; high school events will follow 30 minutes after the junior high rodeo ends, but not before 11:30 a.m. Sunday’s events will be in reverse order.

Concessions will be available, with proceeds to support the rodeo team.

The Basin High School Rodeo Club would like to thank the many businesses in the area for their support in making this event possible.

High School Events include bull riding, saddle bronc, bareback, tie down roping, steer wrestling, team roping, barrel racing, pole bending, breakaway roping and goat tying.

Junior high events include bull riding, saddle bronc, bareback, tie down roping, team roping, barrel racing, pole bending, breakaway roping, goat tying, chute dogging, ribbon roping, and boy and girl breakaway.

In order to enter either rodeo, a competitor must be a member of the Colorado Junior High Rodeo Association or the Colorado State High School Rodeo Association. For more information on these associations, visit www.cshsra.org.

Members must meet the same eligibility requirements as in any other Colorado high school sport.
