Teams continue to raise funds to head to Global competition

The four Pagosa Springs Destination ImagiNation teams heading to University of Tennessee in Knoxville at the end of May are preparing to raise money at a dinner at 6 p.m. Friday, May 4, at the Pagosa Springs Youth Center.

A $10 donation will get you dinner, a performance by each of the teams, a silent auction with great items from the community and a chance to try an instant challenge to see exactly what the Destination ImagiNation teams do in competition.

The Imaginators, the Nerds, the Smartalecs and the DIdeas will all come together to share in this multi-team fund-raiser.

The school district sponsors and financially supports the teams through state competition. Teams qualifying for Tennessee Global competition need to raise approximately $10,000 each to travel, register and compete there.

This financial commitment then goes to the individual teams. Four of six teams traveled last year and had to raise the money. This year, at state competition, four of six teams qualified again to head south. There are 60 Colorado teams going to the event and six are from the southwest region.

Come meet team members and their families as they prepare to pack the props for the trip to Tennessee next week. If you cannot make the dinner on Friday, please call to donate or stop at the upcoming bake sales, car washes or other events with the DI logo.

Destination ImagiNation is a co-curricular activity and the program is looking to add more teams in the future.
