“Grease Is The Word,” as the song says, and the almost 50 cast and crew members of the Pagosa Springs High School spring musical “Grease,” by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, have been stepping up the pace of rehearsals in preparation for a May 1 opening night.
The 1950s was an unknown time for cast members when they started rehearsing in February, but, by now, performers are quite familiar with the tunes, dance moves, clothing and mannerisms of those times gone by.
Vocalists have been working on oldtime tunes such as “Mooning,” “Freddy My Love” and “We Go Together,” as well as more modern tunes made popular through the movie version of “Grease” starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton John — tunes such as “Hopelessly Devoted to You” and “Sandy.”
Cast members include Aaron Clark, Alex Fortney, Alexis Artis, Angette Pastuszek, Ayriana Rackham, Ben Reece, Bethany Burnett, Brandon Clark, Brayden Mitchell, Brock Cordova, Brooke Hampton, Cierra Keating, Courtney Bishop, Daisy Jones, Dillon McKee, Dylan Koch, Eli Velasquez, Elliott Harwood, Hannah Hemenger, Hayleigh Brown, Hayley Hudson, Jeshua Thomas, Jessey Hampton, Johannh Laverty, Kitman Gill, Laith Scherer, Leslie Baughman, Max Miller, Maya Novak-Herzog, Mesa Lynch, Riley Searle, Rowan Taylor, Ryley Gardner, Sacha Santacruz, Samantha Hunts, Sierra Hewett, Spence Scott, Stefany Soto, Tiffany Bachtel and Zoe Fulco.
“Grease” opens on May 1 and plays through May 5. The music and theater departments at the school added an extra performance this year in anticipation of large crowds due to the popularity of the show.
Tickets at $10 per person will be available performance evenings starting at 6 p.m. at the high school. It will be a rock and rollin’ night. Mark your calendars now.
