Did you know that the average square dancer dances three to four miles per evening without even noticing, and burns 300 to 800 calories in the process?
During the High Country Squares Community Dance Night in April, Mondays from 6 to 7 p.m. at the PLPOA Clubhouse at 230 Port Ave., anyone interested in square dancing can give it a whirl.
This is a fun dance night for new dancers to experience our friendly club and consider if they would like to continue dancing. Under the direction of expert caller Lloyd Husted, dancers enjoy an exciting evening of easy steps and patterns set to lively music. No previous dance experience is necessary, and children are invited to join in as well — minimum suggested age is 7 years. Adult admission is $3 and children 18 and under are admitted for free.
Other possible benefits of square dancing are lowered blood pressure, slowing loss of bone mass, low impact aerobics, cardiovascular conditioning, and improvement of cholesterol profile. Wow, that’s a lot of benefits for an activity that is so much fun.
April 23 and 30 are the last two nights of open dancing, so come on down on from 6 to 7 p.m. at the PLPOA Clubhouse at 230 Port Ave., learn a few simple steps, have a great time and socialize over refreshments with our friendly bunch here in Pagosa Springs.
The open community dancing will be followed by followed by the club’s regular Mainstream and Plus dancing from 7 to 9 p.m.
The High Country Squares offers weekly dances, regional dances and a wonderful sense of community for local and visiting dancers. Contact Lorna at 731-5525 for more information.
