Music Boosters auditioning actors for ‘Cinderella’

Pagosa Springs Music Boosters, a local non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening youth through performing arts and volunteer adult mentorship, will be auditioning actors this Friday, April 13, in the Pagosa Springs High School music room from 2-8 p.m., for Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella.” The musical is slated for production June 29 and 30; July 1, 5, 6 and 7 at Pagosa Springs High School auditorium.

Each year, Music Boosters brings together volunteers from around the community who work together to present a spectacular summer musical.

“It is always a challenge, lots of fun, and a great opportunity to creatively interact with old and new friends as we work together to present a high quality musical theater production,” said artistic director, Dale Johnson. “We love meeting the new people who come to audition, renew friendships with returning performers, and discover once again the abundance of talent residing right here in our own community.”

Those wishing to audition are asked to bring a song of their own preference to sing (about 32 measures in length), and be willing to read aloud a short excerpt from the script.

“Auditions are always fun and very non-threatening,” said Johnson. “We realize that most of the people who audition are not professionals and are not accustomed to the scrutiny of an audition committee. We try to make the experience fun and relaxed for everyone. We just hope we will have big turnout and that we can cast a great team of actors.”.

For those who are not inclined to get on stage and sing or act, there are many other opportunities to be involved and enjoy meeting some really fun people. “Some enduring friendships have been formed through Music Boosters productions,” said Johnson. “There is a great community that forms around the arts, regardless of which aspect of involvement you choose.”

Volunteer opportunities include, technical team (sound and lights), set design and construction, publicity, choreography, ticket sales, concessions, costuming, makeup, or pit orchestra (musicians should contact Sally Neel,

Music Boosters also appreciates community involvement and support through the purchase of ads in the program and tax-deductible donations. Music Boosters could not continue to bring the quality performances that is a hallmark of Music Boosters productions without the generosity of the public businesses and individual donors. All proceeds from these productions go back into public school arts programs, supporting performing arts education.
