Volunteers sought for youth fishing program

The recreation office is seeking volunteers interested in assisting with this year’s “Hooked on Fishing” program.

The program consists of four-hour sessions and is tentatively scheduled to be held Mondays in June at Lake Forest, provided there is enough interest. The sessions typically cover a variety of basic fishing topics, including species identification, casting, knot tying, fly fishing, and catch and release techniques.

With assistance from the Promoting Prevention Coalition and Pagosa Lakes Property Owners Association, up to 25 children ages 8-13 can participate in this weekly outdoor experience.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age; mandatory background checks are required. Fishing experience is preferred, but not essential.

If interested in learning more about becoming a volunteer for this program, please call the recreation office at 264-4151, Ext. 232.
