The recently formed PS Cancer Support Group will have its second monthly meeting Monday, March 26.
The group meets at 5:30 p.m. in Suite N of the Heritage Building, 468 Pagosa St. Regular meetings are scheduled for the last Monday of each month.
Twelve individuals, men and women, patients, survivors and family members met in February to discuss the need for a local support program. The group members shared their experiences, discussed resources for research, testing, treatment, financial help for transportation to treatment and housing during treatment. Books, articles, website information were shared. There was specific interest in treatment options — traditional, experimental and alternative.
Later this year, the group will consider hosting lectures for the community on cancer-related topics including prevention, diet and exercise before and after treatment, alternative treatments, survivor plans, collecting treatment reports and plans for follow-up from physicians, local cancer diagnostic and treatment facilities as well as out-of-state and out-of-country facilities.
For information about the March or future meetings, call Howard 264-5100, Debra 530-205-5593 or Carol 731-9459.
Some of those attending the first meeting will be involved in Pagosa’s annual Relay for Life event, June 22, sponsored by the American Cancer Society. Susan Williams is the contact for that event. Call her at 247-0278.
