Volunteers help with high school musical

It certainly does take a village to mount large scale musicals, and the Pagosa Springs High School spring musical “Grease” is no exception.

Directed by Dale Johnson, with musical direction by Dan Burch, accompanist and musical direction by Venita Burch, assistant direction and vocals coaching by Darcy DeGuise and vocals and acting coaching by Sally Neel, our production staff brings extensive performing arts experience to our students, schools and community.

It takes an enormous number of volunteers from our community to produce our shows.  Sally volunteers her time and talents and endless hours at the school these days as she works primarily with our soloists, teaching vocal techniques, working songs and numbers, and teaching acting through singing.  Since Sally moved here with husband Doug and son Robert, she hit the ground running, surrounding herself with musical endeavors, and shows no signs of slowing down.  Sally has worked every high school show since landing here; additionally, she is on the Pagosa Springs Music Boosters’ board as their music director and as the PS Symphonic Band coordinator.

Sally has it all; not only the experience of song and music, but she also knows how to help a young actor find their character and express it through the lyrics and notes.  She also is adept at helping our “Grease” cast find their Jersey accents and attitudes.

“Grease” opens on May 1.
