The League of Women Voters will host a candidate’s forum on Thursday, March 29, in preparation for the April 3 Town Council election.
The public is invited to meet the candidates at 6 p.m. with the forum beginning at 7 at the Extension Building.
The forum will include the five candidates running for the three at-large seats on the Town Council: Clint Alley, Tracy Bunning, Bob Hart, David Schanzenbaker and Mark Weiler.
The forum will begin with the candidates introducing themselves.
In the second round, each candidate will respond to a set list of previously provided questions. Following this, the floor will be open to questions direct from the audience in a town hall-style meeting.
The League believes that this forum merits attendance by all citizens of Archuleta County, not only residents of the town. Very clearly, Town Council decisions have an impact well beyond the town boundaries. Even without the vote, an interested and active citizen can be influential. Questions will be accepted from anyone in attendance
The League of Women Voters was founded in 1920 to promote political responsibility through informed and active citizen participation in government. There are approximately 80,000 members of the League of Women Voters within all 50 states and the Virgin Islands. In Colorado, alone, there are 1,500 members. The League is a non-partisan organization that neither supports nor opposes any candidate or party. The League does take positions on issues based on in-depth study and provides voters with that analysis. As such, the League enjoys a reputation in the community for providing voters with reliable, balanced information.
Local League membership is $15 and all citizens are encouraged to join and get involved. For more information on the LWV, visit our website at http://lwvac.org/league.html.
