Adult basketball organizational meeting March 8

An organizational meeting for all managers who registered teams for this year’s adult basketball leagues will be held March 8 at 6 p.m. in Town Hall.

The meeting will last about 40 minutes and will address league schedules, game venues, rule changes and tournament dates. All team managers should attend, if possible.

Managers are reminded that team registration fees are $250 per team, plus a $30 fee per player. Players are eligible to participate in this year’s league if they will be 16 years of age or older as of March 10. The leagues are tentatively scheduled to begin March 12.

Call the recreation office at 264-4151, Ext. 231 or 232, for more information.

Skate pond

The skate pond behind the River Center has been closed for the season.

Higher temperatures and thinning ice have resulted in unsafe conditions; please refrain from venturing onto the ice. We also ask that no foreign objects be thrown onto the ice.

Signs indicating the pond’s closure have been posted in the adjacent parking lot.

Cross-country skiing

Thanks to the efforts of the Pagosa Nordic Club, the Pagosa Ranger District and Wolf Creek Trail Blazers, a number of cross-country skiing trails have been groomed in Pagosa Country.

In downtown Pagosa Springs, the Nordic Club has recently groomed a one-kilometer track within Yamaguchi Park. Those seeking a lengthier course outside of town boundaries can opt for the recently-groomed West Fork trail, which is an eight-kilometer track set for skate skiing and cross country, compliments of the Nordic Club.

Likewise, the Pagosa Ranger District recently groomed a 10-kilometer trail at Coyote Hill, and the Wolf Creek Trail Blazers have groomed the “Plumtaw” course, with access from McManus Road (west side) via Piedra Road to the Fourmile Road intersection. Parking at McManus Road (Forest Road 633) is good and access via Fourmile Road is three-fourths of a mile in on a “snomo” packed trail to the Fourmile intersection.

All users are requested to be aware of the presence of novice skiers and share the trails responsibly.
