Thingamajig Theatre announces Summer 2012 Season

Thingamajig Theatre Company, Pagosa’s only professional, year-round theatre company, is announcing their 2012 summer season lineup.

“Thingamajig is already known for offering a wide variety of shows to appeal to a lot of different tastes,” artistic director Tim Moore says.  “We again have a great mix for this coming year, and I’m so excited about the selections that we’re bringing to our stage.”

Two of the three shows are making their debuts in Pagosa, and theatre lovers are in for a real treat.

From June 15–Aug. 12, the summer starts with the old Razzle-Dazzle! Girls, guns, glitz and glamour hit the Thingamajig Theatre stage with the multi Tony Award-winning Broadway musical “Chicago,” directed by Laura Moore and choreographed by Alyse Nuebert. The sizzling tale of corruption and celebrity, inspired by the sensationalized trials of 1920’s Chicago, has John Kander music, lyrics by Fred Ebb, choreography inspired by Bob Fosse and all that jazz!

Next up is a theatre family favorite “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown,” directed by Tim Moore, running June 22-Aug. 5. Based on the beloved comic Peanuts, this updated classic enjoyed a successful run on Broadway. The show is a day made up of little moments picked from all the days of Charlie Brown, from Valentine’s Day to baseball season, from wild optimism to utter despair, all mixed in with the lives of his friends (both human and non-human) and strung together on the string of a single day, from bright uncertain morning to hopeful starlit evening. Two new songs, “Beethoven Day” and “My New Philosophy,” are added to a score which includes the wonderful numbers “The Baseball Game,” “Suppertime” and “Happiness.”

The season closes with a new musical “The Last Five Years” that will surely be another blockbuster, running for three weeks from Aug. 24-Sept. 9 and is directed by Pat Payne.  “The Last Five Years” is a contemporary song-cycle musical that ingeniously chronicles the five year life of a marriage, from meeting to breakup ... or from breakup to meeting, depending on how you look at it. Written by Jason Robert Brown (“Parade,” “Songs for a New World”), “The Last Five Years” is an intensely personal look at the relationship between a writer and an actress told from both points of view.
