Jim (James Harvey) Layne of Hemet, Calif., passed away Friday, Feb. 10, 2012. He was born Nov. 22, 1930 in Redland, Calif., and raised in Springdale, Ark. Jim had been a resident of Pagosa Springs for 18 years. Many were acquainted with Jim from his occupation of being a school bus driver, driving for Mountain Express and from the ministry work he was involved with as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Sharing Bible truths with his neighbors, such as God’s promises for the earth (Psalms 37:10,11), brought him great joy. Talking about his family was another favorite pastime. Jim loved visiting with everyone he came into contact with. He knew no strangers. His love of Colorado was also well known to all.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Clifford and Lona Pearl Layne, his sister Rona Underwood, his brothers Jerry and Raymond Layne and his great-grandson Jonas Modglin.
Jim will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 19 years, Rosa Layne, his sister, Myrtle Foster, his children David and Connie Layne, Kathy and Pete Gifford, Jamie and Tim Lerzo, Eva Mendoza, Alex and Sylvia Mendoza, and Alina Mendoza, his 14 grandchildren, Jeremy, Josh, Jeffrey, James, Jacob, Lisa, Matthew, Cynthia, Stephanie, Casandra, Kristina, Jaimie, Robert, Nico, and Amaya and his 20 great grandchildren, Jesse, Jordan, Calandra, Taylor, Avery, Corbin, Barak, Alika, Eathan, Kyndal, Julian, Jayden, Jarret, Madison, Nicholas “James,” Paris, Ireland, Miles, Charlotte and one more on the way.
Please send condolences to Rosa Layne, care of Eva Mendoza, P.O. Box 1583, Pagosa Springs, CO 81147.
