County Republicans pick Santorum in Presidential poll

Archuleta County Republicans attended caucuses held in eight precincts Tuesday night, casting votes in a Presidential Poll and allocating delegates to the County Assembly from each precinct.

The result of the local Presidential Poll is as follows:

1. Rick Santorum —114 votes.

2. Mitt Romney — 91.

3. Ron Paul — 64.

4. Newt Gingrich — 54.

5. John Huntsman — 1.

6. Other (Donald Trump) — 1.

Total votes cast — 325.

There are 3,065 active Republican voters in Archuleta County, thus slightly more than 10 percent of those eligible turned out for the caucus Tuesday night. The turnout number was 65 more than in 2008 and 95 more than in 2010.

Information concerning delegates selected during the vote was not available as of press time; precinct committee persons were still finalizing all the information on their lists.

The local party increased the total allocated delegates to the County Assembly to 100 this year. There will be 31 allocated delegates and 31 alternates to the State Assembly this year — more than double the number the party had in 2010.?

Local caucus attendance, based on Presidential Poll vote, was as follows:

Statewide, the official results, with 100 percent of precincts reporting, are as follows

Rick Santorum — 26,614.

Mitt Romney — 23,012.

Newt Gingrich — 8,445.

Ron Paul — 7,759.

Write-in — 71.

Rick Perry — 52.

John Huntsman — 46.

Michele Bachmann — 28.

Total votes cast — 66,027.
