Jerry Barlow brings unique guitar stylings to Pagosa

Jerry Barlow — acclaimed Celtic fingerstyle guitarist — performs in concert at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 25, at the Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts.

Born and raised in Denver, Jerry Barlow had a successful career performing and composing in Nashville before shifting his attention to an innovative guitar style known as Celtic fingerstyle.

He is a consummate performer — highly admired for his musical abilities, as well as his extraordinary rapport with audiences both young and old. His melodically rich guitar style and his great sense of humor have kept this endearing performer on the upper tier of Colorado concert musicians for years.

Barlow’s repertoire is a synthesis of his own Celtic-inspired compositions and traditional music of the British Isles. His Celtic guitar style has a great sense of depth and beauty. Originally developed by British guitarists during the folk music revival of the 1960s, Barlow expertly employs this style to capture the magic of ancient melodies traditionally been played on bagpipe, fiddle and harp — and for his original compositions. A warm and accessible performer, Barlow performs music to soothe the soul, warm the heart and lift the spirit.

Paula Tripodi, of the El Morro Area Arts Council, echoed the sentiments of many in Pagosa who have attended Barlow’s past concerts here: “Jerry’s concert was one to the most entertaining we’ve ever had. Many who attended thought it was the best. We feel honored to have had Jerry as a guest performer and are looking forward to having him back.”

We’re looking forward to having him, too, in just a few days.
